Best and Worst Halloween Costumes: Athlete Edition!

Last night, all the ghouls and goblins were out in full force, and following All Hallow's Eve, it's time to see which athletes wore the best and worst costumes during the year's most frightening day. Let the judging begin!

BEST: These are the costumes that make Strahan's toothy-gap and big smile shine bright.

1. Josh Sundquist as the Leg Lamp in A Christmas Story

The Paralympic skier, cancer survivor, and motivational speaker really upped the game this Halloween, donning his lampshade costume from the holiday classic A Christmas Story movie. His photo received more than 1.6 million views and was definitely one of the most creative costumes. He even tweeted: "For Halloween, I dressed as a leg lamp. I had to shave my leg, but I think it was worth it. RT if you agree." Oh, I agree, as did millions of others. Apparently he ordered a pre-made lampshade costume online and had it custom fit for his body. In one word: SWAG.

2. Hines Ward as a zombie

At first, when I saw this photo of former Pittsburgh Steeler wide receiver Hines Ward, I thought he was one of the walkers from the hit show The Walking Dead. Then upon second glance, I did indeed realize it was Ward. All I have to say is instead of buying a zombie mask, which would be the easy way out, whoever did the makeup for Ward deserves applause. Boy, this is hideously appealing, and totally appropriate for Halloween. I agree.

3. The Rock as The Hulk

Of all the things Dwayne Johnson, otherwise known as the Rock, could be, who knew his interpretation of the iconic Hulk would be so spot on. No body padding, no fake muscles required. This is all Johnson, except for well, the green paint and shaggy black wig. There's no doubt that if you can look this good at 40 years of age, you're probably doing something right. In order words, don't make him angry!

4. Ludacris as Anthony Davis

When Ludacris croons "What's your fantasy?" well, it definitely is not this. The singer channeled his favorite inner New Orleans player Anthony Davis, who aside from his skills on the court, has had a fruitful career off the court in the form of sports memes. "I don't usually surf the internet, but when I do, eyebrows" or "Y.O.S.O. You only shave once" are the most popular memes of the top draft pick. To be fair, while Davis does own his unibrow, Ludacris's Halloween costume of the basketball player is definitely creative!

5. Alex Smith and family as Captain America

What is cuter than the family from the hit movie The Incredibles? Definitely San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith's family Halloween photo as Captain American and family. Not only was this family photo pretty adorable, his wife and son's costumes were on point, and I applaud the Smiths for this idea. I know 49ers fans have been happy with his performance this season, and so am I.

WORST: These costumes show how seriously unimpressed McKayla is.

1. Kyle Kingsbury as a blue blob?

MMA fighter Kyle Kingsbury decided to channel his inner Blue Man Group, but I'm not sure if he was successful. When you dress up as a blue blob to hide your incredibly toned physique, I'm already skeptical. But what he's also hiding are air holes for his eyes, nose and mouth. Add a female companion in a green blowup costume, and I'm already confused. I believe he's also wearing a fanny pack? No words can describe this incredible disaster of a costume. In the words of the ESPN brethren, C'mon Man!

2. Ryan Bader as a girl

It seems there's a trend for bad costumes within the UFC community. Joining fellow fighter  Kyle Kingsbury is Ryan Bader who unlike Kingsbury, is actually showing his incredibly toned physique. At first glance, I thought I was looking at a female body builder, to then realize it was Bader wearing a hot pink bra, short shorts, and a blonde wig. His boyfriend in the photo? Fellow fighter Aaron Simpson who's dressed up as his overly-aggressive boyfriend, who also comes with a gun tattoo. What are they supposed to be? I'm completely confused, and not impressed.

3. Logan Morrison as Benjamin Franklin

Miami Marlins superstar Logan Morrison makes ladies swoon on and off the field, but with his latest Halloween attempt? I'd think not. He could have tried to be anything else, but what did Morrison end up dressing up as? Benjamin Franklin. While I revere Ben Franklin for his invention of bifocals and starting one of this nation's first libraries, I'm sure Ben would have been appalled if he'd seen Morrison dressed up as him. Wearing half a bad cap and what looks like a construction worker uniform, I don't think this costume was inventive (pun intended) at all. Ugh...

4. Jimmy Clausen as Russell Brand

Oh Jimmy Clausen. I give you props for trying this Halloween, but I'm pretty sure you can do better next year. I thought he was dressing up as a hippie, but considering the girl in the Katy Perry-like getup standing right next to him, I figured he was attempting to channel his inner Russell Brand. This is already a disaster, because as you know, Perry and Brand are already divorced. Clausen's costume seems like it's a cross between a hipster and a biker, who's wearing a do-rag. No, just no.

5. Dwayne Wade as himself?

We all know Dwayne Wade has a lot of things going for him, a recent NBA Championship title and ring, a beautiful girlfriend in Gabrielle Union, and celebrity status. What he doesn't have going for him is this Halloween costume. Is he supposed to be a body builder? I'm pretty sure that's what he looks like under all his clothes ladies. Might he have just taken his children trick-or-treating in his birthday suit? Probably not, but if you're supposed to be a more muscular form of yourself, I'm not really impressed with the creativeness of this costume. Add the Angry Birds slippers he's wearing, and I think his play of the court is better than his play this Halloween season.
